I don't think a game that big will be able to backup onto a USB for the ps3 since they have to be formatted to fat32. This means a file can't be over 4gb.
As for having troubles with the HDD, make sure you have enough space for a backup

alright but i have an external thats about 1 terobyte and its fat32, so i dont know about that. But my ps3 has about a 100 gigs left, idk whats wrong
