From my experience, yes that does work. But, that method will get you no where. It will last a few hours, and the most 1 week. To do a real fix, you have to open up the ps3 and reball the chips and replace the thermal paste. You should let a professional do that.

i had ylod on my other ps3 two weeks ago, i just opened the ps3 from the back and cleaned everything, after that i took a hair dryer and hold it on my ps3 40 min, 20 min warm then 20 min cold, after that it worked again and the ps3 is still working

I put it in a big box and took hair dryer and did it in intervals. I may or may not work. Try it! Go 10 Min On 10 Min off. for about an hour.. Once done - let if cool down FULLY.( just to make sure the thermal paste s hardened). This Is only temp meaning : You will end up getting the YLOD again. But You might get luck like me and not get it for a while. Im going on 5 months from when i fixed mine. GL
