MEGA THREAD

Welcome to Fifa 14 Ultimate Team Mega Thread.
In this thread, I will include:

  • Tips
  • Techniques
  • Squad Builders
  • Much more...

Please note, not all of this information was made by me. I have simply collected the best stuff from the web and written my own stuff and then complied it to one mega thread.

Enjoy.

Tips and Tricks:

Here's a brief rundown of items you can expect to encounter in Ultimate Team.

Player Items:

Gold: The highest ranked players; ratings come in between 75-99.

Silver: Medium rated players who have an overall score between 65-74.

Bronze: Any player whose rating comes in below 64.

Team of the Week: Each week, EA selects a team of stars who have performed well in real life. A variation of their player item will appear in packs for one week and features a points boost. Click here for a detailed look at in-form players.

Other Items:

Managers: Needed to oversee your team and maximise chemistry. Each manager provides a specific boost.

Manager Leagues: Do you own a Jose Mourinho card but wish him to exert full chemistry with a Liga Sagres squad? You can switch his allegiance with one of these.

Other Staff: Similar to managers, coaches offer small bonuses when kept in your club. This might be better fitness, greater passing ability across your squad, or even quicker reflexes for your goalkeeper.

Contracts: The most important consumable on the game. Any player who takes part in a match must have a least one game remaining on their contract.

Chemistry Styles: Used to specialize your players. (There is a more in depth look at Chemistry further down in the thread)

Stadiums: The theater in which your team resides. Top stadiums are cheap and boost morale, so pick one up straight away.

Fitness: Buy this when you want a quick boost to a player or squad's fitness.

Healing: If anyone suffers an injury, you can buy the appropriate item to speed up healing.

Player Training: Should any of your players need a stats boost that lasts one match, perhaps in a cup final, use one of these.

Position Change: Players sometimes need a slight tweak in position to fit your squad. Although you won't be able to place Leighton Baines in goal, you can switch him from a left-back to a left wing-back.

Chemistry:

I have dedicated a single section to Chemistry, because to me it is one of the most important aspects of Ultimate Team.

What is Chemistry?

Chemistry is a number that represents how effective the overall relationship of your team is. A total out of 100 is produced via the individual player links across the XI team members you have on the pitch.

Imagine your team is a brain. Each player represents a nerve that must work together in order for effective actions to be carried out. Should one of these nerves fail to link with the rest, something strange or frustrating will happen.

The more links that fail, the less effective your team becomes.

Teams with high chemistry will ping the ball around easier, make a larger amount of effective runs and exert a faster natural tempo.

How to Improve Chemistry:

FIFA 14’s biggest change in this area is the decision to get rid of formation items. This makes chemistry easier to build and gives you the opportunity to try different tactics without the need to purchase an endless amount of items in order to change each player’s formation preference.

Players: If there’s one thing to remember, it's that teams made up of players from same league or nation produce chemistry in the simplest fashion. A full lineup of either is guaranteed to result in 100 percent chemistry.

Links: When setting up your squad, you'll notice links between players who are within close proximity on the pitch.

Green links indicate they work perfectly together (perhaps they are from the same country and club), while orange suggests they still work well. Red links confirm there is no relationship between the players and their correspondence on the pitch may be difficult.

It is perfectly acceptable to have dead links if your team chemistry still makes it to 100 or thereabouts. Many hybrid sides (teams that effectively combine various leagues and nations) will have one or two dead links.

Managers: Chemistry will sit at the highest point of 99 if you don’t have a manager. Although selecting a head coach now comes down to personal preference—and isn't dictated by formation—you still need to ensure you have a shouty man on the sidelines.

Top Tip: Cheap teams with 100 percent chemistry will outplay those made up of unlinked stars. Don't be afraid to build selections made up of uncostly players, as with a variation of tournaments available, you'll never know when you might need them.

Coin Making Guide:

In Fifa Ultimate Team, there are multiple effective ways of making coins. These vary from Real life player trading, mass bidding, 59th minute method and consumables trading.

59th Minuted Method:

How it Works:
The default auction duration for any card you list is 1 hour. Therefore, most cards are listed for one hour because people don't bother to change it. Since cards are listed by time remaining when you search, you can get yourself right around this hour mark, where 59 minutes remain on the auctions.

By scrolling up and down the pages, you are refreshing them. If you're positioned between 59 minutes and 45 seconds and 1 hour, you'll be seeing cards that were literally JUST put up. The advantage of this? You see these cards before anyone else does (besides other 59th minute users) and have a high chance of seeing a good bargain and getting it. From there you can sell for a healthy profit.

How it's Done:
Set your search parameters: Max Buy Now to whatever number of coins you have and Level to "gold". Now comes the worst part. You'll need to scroll all the way up the pages to the 59th minute where the bargains are. The best way to do this is to use the Web App and install an auto clicker click through the pages for you.

Once you're there, you can start looking for bargains by scrolling up and down the pages to refresh. You probably won't really know what's a bargain the first time, so you'll need to just pay attention and see what gets bought quickly and for what prices. Try adding cards to your watch list and searching for the card in another tab. You'll probably loose the bargain if it actually is one, but this means you'll remember it next time for sure. You can also use a second tab to sell your cards and not have to leave the 59th minute.

Investing In Player Performances
This is a method in which you invest in players straight after a game where they've played really well, or when they're highly tipped to be in the TOTW, there prices will rise and then you sell them at a higher price making profit.

What to look for when investing in a player:

You want to make sure their League or Nationality is popular among FUTers (even better if they play for a big club as shown by Januzaj and Townsend’s recent price increases).

You want to make sure they have decent stats (relative to other Gold, Silver and Bronze players), ensuring they will be popular among other FUTers! You’ll notice that their overall rating, pace (PAC), Skill Moves and other card stats are major factors of popularity. YouTubers also can significantly help with player popularity (almost regardless of their stats)!

You’ll notice that it is more difficult to make extremely high margins on the more expensive players, so if the player is cheap then you can make A LOT of coins. Januzaj and Townsend were both cheap and went up 5x + on their original values, whereas Suarez (much more expensive) who featured in TOTW 7 went up around a quarter of his original value.
What conditions help player HYPE?

To ensure the player you choose to invest in gets maximum exposure to the HYPE, you want to make sure the game is popular and preferably televised. Although you can make good coins by investing in players that play well in the Barclays PL on Saturday, an exclusive Monday night Barclays PL fixture may be more of a safe bet as more people will tune into this game. Alternatively the early or late Barclays PL games on Saturday or Sunday which feature on TV may be more appropriate. The Bundesliga, Liga BBVA, Serie A are also great leagues to invest in. Using Lukaku as an example, he played in the only Barclays PL fixture on a Monday night (also televised), so a huge amount of people were watching that game!

Huge one off fixtures such as the FA CUP Final, Champions League Final, Capital One Cup Final, Europa League Cup Final, Internationals, Copa del Rey Cup Final and FA Cup upsets can significantly increase player hype and change prices.
You should pay attention to Twitter and especially popular FIFA YouTubers as they can significantly add to the hype bubble. This will make thousands of their fans rush to get that player for their team.

Although cup competitions can increase player hype, in general league fixures are more likely to do so as those players which feature in TOTW will generally see the biggest increase in price.
When to sell players:

Although the best time to sell potential TOTW players vary, in general you have two options;

You can look to sell players within 30 minutes of their outstanding performance or second goal etc. This will ensure you receive decent QUICK profits that can be reinvested. 99% of the time you will notice that with players that get listed in high volume (such as Lukaku), throughout the evening their price will drop as there is not as much hype. By selling quickly, you free up more coins to reinvest in the player the following morning when the price is likely to drop.

Alternatively, if you are fairly certain the player will feature in the TOTW, you can wait until the TOTW announcement and sell at just after 3.00pm (UK time). We’ve also noticed that when the TOTW in-forms get released into packs at 6pm (UK time), the non in-form prices slightly increase again (although not as much as of 3pm UK). However you’ll see that we sold many of our Lukaku’s for 22,750 coins at 3.00pm (UK time) and at 9pm (UK time) the same day he was selling for 13,000 coins. This shows that knowing when to sell your players is extremely important to your coins total!

Please note: If the player is popular and almost guaranteed to feature in the TOTW, then we advise selling the player just before the TOTW announcement. Many other FUTers will be looking to offload their investments at just past 3pm (UK time) and this will result in the price falling significantly. You should ensure your card is the cheapest on the market so it sells, meaning you won’t have to re-list it an hour later for a lot less. Start experimenting with different players every week so you get a feel on when to sell certain players.

A few final Trading Tips:

  • Make sure you follow popular YouTubers as they have the ability to influence FUT 14 prices.
  • When a large number of packs are being opened (due to a popular TOTW or Happy Hour) the market will become flooded with bargain consumables and cheap bargain gold players.
  • Strength has a much greater influence on how your team plays compared to FUT 13.
  • Before purchasing a player make sure you change Summary to Status so you can see the player’s Contracts and Fitness. If both are low then you will have to apply Contracts and rest them / apply Fitness Cards.
  • Make sure you put your players through several listing cycles to help them sell (if by the 3rd cycle they haven’t sold then drop the price).
  • Players that you purchase from the Transfer Market will need to play 10 games for your Club before receiving a Player Loyalty Chemistry Bonus.

Squad Builders:

When you first start Ultimate Team, your squad is the most important thing. This will help you win games, build up coins and have fun.

In this section you will find my best squad guides, tips and builders for the best leagues, countries and prices in the game. I will include cheap over powered (OP) squads but also very expensive squads.

If you would like to request a squad builder, please just quote me and ask.
