If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys and apes?

My friend asked me this and I didn't really know to say...

Monkeys and apes were not what we evolved directly from but ya we're the same family.
Evolution takes a long time for some and others, because of quick changes a single species could split into two more over a few generations.
If I payed more attention in science Id remember the name for it but the apes and monkeys went in seperate enviroments and adapted to their needs as did our ancestors.
After long enough you get a gap between species just like how there are separate races.

We did evolve from a genus of ape like mammal some 4 to 5 million yrs ago.
Grass plains in africa forced them to walk more upright to spot food and predators.
That envoirmental condition caused an evolution to the homo genus ( upright walking ) and other ape like genuses evolved to their enviormental conditions to the ape of today.

Somewhat scary to think that we are all Homos.

But I prefer to think of myself as a sapien sapien.

The single sapiens died out with the neandrathals..

Going by memorey here but I think that is it!!
