I've seen several ingress players on the pokemon go subreddit saying that everyone bitching for bans is just wasting their breath and time. Apparently botting and GPS spoofing was a big problem in Ingress as well to which Niantic was more 'meh fuck it' in terms of what they did but talked a big game about banning.
