Can I use '
ebug for HDD exchange utility'? can I insert the SSD in the same slot as where the HDD was or would I need anything extra?

Huh, don't know if that works still, but I don't see why it wouldn't....
You need to connect the SSD to the PS3s right USB port by using a SATA to USB connection, with it connected run the Debug etc etc and it should start copying the files over. Once it's done, take the old hard drive out, and put in the new SSD.
