when i try to update to 3.55 i get an error saying data is corrupt.

Did you format your usb to fat32 and rename the update to just PS3UPDAT.PUP? And also extract any files you download if they're zipped

Ok I know that my USB is formatted to fat32 and the file name is PS3UPDAT.pup but I don't know if I unzipped the file I will try that, and do you have to be in recovery menu to do this of do it straight from the XMB ?

It could be your usb, otherwise I'm not sure, and no you don't want to install 9.99 downgrader cuz that'll make your ps3 think its on 9.99 and you won't be able to update to 4.xx cuz 9.99 is a higher fw, but speaking of 9.99 downgrader there's a possibility that u bought one where the person downgraded from 4.xx ofw to 3.55 cfw but left it on whatever downgrade pup they used

I will take a look at it and another thing when i try to install an ofw from the recovery menu it won't let me because when I click on system update it says something like connect storage media that contains version 4.50 or later ...
