You need a but a 2.5 size Hard drive. Here is an example: You must login or register to view this content.

Once you buy this remove the old one and install the new HDD into the ps3.
Now you will have to re-install the CFW you are currently on.
Bam you're done.

Few things to consider the HDD might need to be formatted to FAT32. I didn't have to, but always a possibility!
Remove any ps3 disc in the drive before you update the ps3 with the CFW

and if u already have a hdd from a ofw playstation ? cuz when im putting a hdd in the jb ps3 it says no data found do i have to put a cfw tru recovery mode ?

well automatically the ps3 should request for the same firmware version you're currently on.

Let say you're running on Rogero 4.55, then you put in a different HDD, the ps3 should start off saying

" The system software cannot be run correctly..........If the system cannot be restarted, the system partition of the system storage must be reformatted and you must reinstall the system software.
Connect storage media that contains update data version of 4.55 or later, and then press Start and Select button at the same time."

If you don't see this message then after connecting your controller and pressing the PS button. Then yes go into safe/recovery mode and go to option 6 to install the CFW
