(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Have you ever thought about playing a game on Playstation with your mouth? Well Sony is up to the challenge and has published a patent to allow you to play any game with your mouth, or more specific, your tongue.
This was filed last August, but not until recently did the patent get actually published. We have been given a description of how this would work, "A mouthpiece configured to be worn over one or more teeth of a user of the computer program. Mouthpiece including one or more sensors configured to determine one or more tongue orientation characteristics of the user."
The picture gives a more visual side to this description. 303 shows the mouthpiece that you would put on 2 teeth. Then the mouthpiece can sense your tongue and other signals around it.
There can also be other ways to find out where your tongue is located. For example, a headset covering your face or in sensors. The sensors would include a microphone in your ear, stethoscope acoustic sensors, a microphone in the jaw, Bluetooh sensors, and finally an ultrasound or infrared sensor. With all that there would most likely be an additional necklace that would provide pressure to your neck.
Sony hasn't really gone into depth about this, but they have stated, "For example, if the user’s tongue is moving to the right, a control input that corresponds to moving an object in the virtual environment created by the computer program to the right may be established.
After the control input has been established, the computer program may perform an action based on the control input as illustrated at 605. By way of example, and not by way of limitation, this action may be the movement of an object associated with a virtual environment created by the computer program."
Do you think Sony has gone to far or might this be interesting to try?
