Geohot Releases PS3 3.55 Jailbreak
The highly anticipated wait is over. Geohot has finally released his jailbreak. Check it out here:
He states that old homebrew will not work
new homebrew signing tools coming soon.

Wow I was reading this thread and stopped at page 4. If this has already been explained, my apologies. This release is mixing the term "jailbreak" and "cfw". This is in fact CUSTOM FIRMWARE. People are saying jailbreak just to get people aboard.
Here are a few things to clear the questions and in-consistencies for the whole situation:
To use this, do the following:
With CFW you can do just about anything. Jailbreaking is history on 3.55+. from what I know, if you go past 3.50 you can NOT downgrade. This MAY change in the future. Going to CFW is a one way street. YOU CAN NOT DOWNGRADE PERIOD!!!

Here are a few things to clear the questions and in-consistencies for the whole situation:
- This is a modded sony software for RETAIL consoles, aka what you would buy at walmart or gamestop.
- You must upgrade to offical sony Firmware 3.55 to use geohot's CFW.. The reason is his is only a small modification, not the full thing. If you don't you will most likely BRICK your console and need to buy a new one.
- Developers can now make homebrew that can run on geohot-based PS3's.
- You can run a FTP server on your CFW ps3. FTP is File Transfer Protocal. Simply its a file server that you can use to access and manage stuff on your ps3 like MW2 patches as thats what I know that everyone is only caring about.
- You CAN NOT pirate or run backup games.
- You do NOT jailbreak with psjailbreak, ps3key or anything else!
- Since you have file access now you can copy "patches" to run those lobbies you are crazy about for some reason.
To use this, do the following:
- Upgrade to 3.55 via system update. This will change though when sony releases a new update.
- Install it like anything else
- Put a usb flash drive in your PC.
- Create a Folder called PS3
- Create a Folder called UPDATE inside of the PS3 folder you just made.
- Extract the update.pup file that you got from geohot.com and put it in UPDATE.
- Remove from PC, and put it in your PS3.
- Go to system update. Install an update from "USB Storage Device"
- It will install the file on your USB.
- It will shutdown automatically, don't turn off manually.
- Turn back on and ur in.
- [put USB in your PC and put the SIGNED FTP server floating around on it.
- Put back in PS3 and go to install package files under game menu.
- Select the pkg and it will install.
- Download filezilla and install.
- Now just follow the tutorials on running lobbies and assume your jailbroken, even though your not.

Guys call me a noob, but will I be alble to play backups or not with this 3.55 CF??? Still dont get it.... 
eg GT5 EU that I still havent managed to make it work on my 3.41 Jailbraked ps3? TY in advance!!!

It shocks me that you guys can't read. BTW there is a patch for official sony firmware that will allow ppl to backup games.though that does not mean that if you use that patch, u can magically do it. The backup managers must be updates with the new method/code.
So that patch can be installed, then you install geohots stuff.

STEP 5: Choose Install Package Files
STEP 6: Select the test.pkg
STEP 7: After it installs you will find the test package from geohot installed below the Install Package Files folder
STEP 8: Wait for more packages to be created by the PS3 community
Note: With the above geohot's PS3 jailbreak guide, you won't be able to play backup games or pirated games or whatever you choose to call them. You can install packages with the provided installer. More packages will be coming from the PS3 jailbreak community in the coming weeks and months.
