In the ongoing console wars, many gamers try and boast about certain fixations which their system may offer. Bringing game quality into the middle of this debate, players often find themselves deciphering which console, if any, has the best version of a game. Nevertheless, it now seems as if Battlefield 3 may have a slight performance advantage on the Playstation 3, as compared to the Xbox 360. Though the game will be stellar nonetheless, the Playstation system hardware will be more compatible with DICE’s featured title.
In this scenario, DICE is not playing favorites towards the Playstation 3 system. The PS3 Battlefield will featured SPU-based deffered shading, as verses the Xbox 360 having only tiled-based deffered shading. Microsoft’s console does not feature any SPUs(Single Processing Unit), and therefore leading to the advantageous visual effects which PS3 gamers are said to experience. Since the Playstation 3 version of the game can utilize both the SPU and GPU(Graphics Processing unit), it ultimately allows for more potential to be had. All in all, due to these hardware specifications, it is believed the Playstation 3 version of Battlefield 3 will have better shaders that will enable a more complex environmental setting.
DICE still promises the great depth in both titles, and ensures gamers all the best. The 360 will still be able to offload some of it’s CPU power to the GPU. This doesn’t all add up to a better game port on the PS3 system; however, only time will tell.
While it has taken sometime, developers now seem to be utilizing more of the Playstation 3’s potential in hopes of further pleasing consumers.
