(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); As you can see this thread is about PS3 Temperature. I know there's loads of threads about this but I wanted to share my little PS3 mod which many of you have probably seen.

First of all I striped the PS3 down. Cleared all built up of dust then re-pasted the CPU and RSX with MX-4. Also Replaced those little heat pads.

Next I drew lines inside the bottom case so the drill holes are nicely spaced out then drilled a rows of holes on the bottom plastic case. 6 rows in total.

Next I took apart the PSU and drilled holes in the top casing of the PSU. (Not the main housing) just followed the 4-5 indents along the PSU.

Next I smoothed all the holes with a round file. Clearing all the left over plastic from drilling.

Reassembled the PS3 and then tested on main home screen then tested further in game.

Games tested on - Black Ops 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, Farming Simulator 15 😂 and Red Dead Redemption.

** Note ** I re-pasted the PS3 way before doing this case mod and using the same thermal paste and the temperature only dropped by 2c - 4c

Before Mod---------

Home Screen Temperature:
CPU: 65c - 70c
RSX: 65c - 70c

In Game Temperature:
CPU: 70c - 75c
RSX: 70c - 75c

After Mod---------- UPDATE 2

Home Screen Temperature:
CPU: 57c
RSX: 45c - 55c

In Game Temperature:
CPU: 58c
RSX: 50c - 55c

PS3 Slim 250GB (CECH2003A)
Rebug 4.81.1 DEX

Hope this helps if anyone wants to try it without destroying there case or even PS3.

You could change the heatsink with one from a older slim. Mine used to hit 85c while playing gta and that's with new thermal paste but after putting in the other hestsink it went down to 75c Outie

Never thought about that. Was thinking about lapping the heatsink to try get a better fit to the chips. I've just finished modding the top case with holes and dust mesh. It's not the best looking but it's simple and clean.

Thanks for the advice Smile

No problem Smile I've also tried drilling holes in the lid but it looked like crap. Here are the different heatsinks, First one is a 2003A model (currently on my ps3). The pictures aren't showing up. It says the image is broken.

I've always bought new parts but it's a good idea to take parts from a different ps3.

I've just finished modding the top case and just done my Joypad. I'll post the pictures in a little while

The only thing that would increase is the resistance of the current from adding leds, which means an even higher amount of amps are going to pass through your leds with them installed and can blow the leds, if not eventually... You should use a resistor to keep this from happening. If I am not grammatically correct, I apologize. But you can look into this yourself to see what I mean.

you saying the cech20XX heat sink is better then the cech21XX? my cech2002 has YLOD and i don't plan to reball it as the motherboard is to soft and bent. all i know is i can't use my cech21 without a fan mod because my psu runs outrageously hot. though i also had holes in my cech2002 so in the end it run lower temps before it died fully.
i don't know much about cooling playstations i work more with xbox's as i own Xenon's but that old Fat ps3 Dro had in his post that gta was getting played on, i somewhat doubt the psu over heats in that one lol. i was gonna convert my old nand ps3 to run off a old xbox power supply then install more fans to keep console cool, i don't use the disc drive so only thing that would be in the top would be the psb for disc drive. no idea if thats what its called on the ps3 but anyways.

If its the heatsink with heatpipes then yes. Im using a power supply from a 25XX model slim as the one I was using from the 2003B started to randomly switch off. I've also wired up the hidden lights on the power bar :P
