(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I’ve got cranky with cfw ps3s, apart from doing trophies, I’ve forgotten all about them.

I set the webman fan speed up a little, till it got to 90% and froze.

Now the ps3 freezes on boot, safe mode works until you select an option it will freeze. (Rebuilding, restore to default settings)

Also the fan speed seems to have stuck also in safe mode.

I think the fan speed has fucked it up, but how can I get the fan speed back down if I get can’t to XMB?

What about restoring the firmware or something.

Took the HDD out, and it boots without the 90% jet engine fans, so it leads to me think reformatting the hard drive should help, as well as reinstalling the firmware.

Edit

How the fuck do you reinstall the CFW after formatting the drive?

Based on the fact that your console is freezing during any options in recovery mode, I would usually assume the hdd is damaged and actually needs to be replaced, or is at least corrupted, as you suspect.

to format a ps3 hdd:

1. Insert the hdd into the ps3
2. Boot the ps3 into recovery mode
3. Select option "restore ps3 system"
This will format the hdd and wipe everything (games, saves, homebrew)
When it is finished, you may be brought to a black screen, asking for your last syscall (last cfw installed)
4. Reinstall your cfw

to install a firmware:
1. Download a firmware. Rename the file to "PS3UPDAT.PUP"
2. On a fat32 formatted usb flash drive, create a folder named "PS3"
3. Inside the "PS3" folder, create a folder named "UPDATE"
4. Inside the "UPDATE" folder, place the "PS3UPDAT.PUP"
5. Insert the flash drive into the rightmost usb port of your ps3

in your case, from here, just follow prompt to install after format
but otherwise, you would normally continue by:

6. Boot ps3 into recovery mode
7. Select option "update system"
8. Follow prompt to install
