Make sure your ps3 isnt "Bridged" with the Pc , right click your wireless adapter in settings and share it with ethernet and then connect the ps3 to the pc

Do my laptop need to be connected with ethernet cable or could I do it wireless?

You can RTM wireless and/or straight connected from your router. However, some people think they can RTM wireless without an Ethernet cable because of the word "wireless." You would still need to have an Ethernet cable connected from your PS3 to your laptop or desktop.
